Journalism and
Audio-visual Laboratories and Television Studio
Students of Communications have access to a Journalism Laboratory,
an Audio-visual Laboratory and a Television Studio. In these spaces
a variety of equipment is available including VCRs, television
sets, cameras, tripods, audio recorders, microphones, etc. Digital
means have become very powerful for recording and editing image
and sound in the last few years and are nowadays a central part
of the laboratories. We also provide technical assistance to users.
The Journalism Lab has nearly thirty computers equipped with a
variety of software applications.
Libraries
Amongst the University of Minho’s libraries, the University
Library (Biblioteca Geral da Universidade do Minho) and the Social
Sciences Library are the most useful ones for students and researchers
in the field of Communications. These libraries are fully covered
in catalogues available over the web and provide direct access
to bookshelves. All students and staff of the University of Minho
are granted free entry. Access cards can also be issued to external
users.
Besides book consultation and borrowing, the University Library
provides a number of products and services, including video and
audio tapes, and access to national and international databases.
The Social Sciences Library is located in the Institute of Social
Sciences. It specialises on journals of the scientific areas associated
with the Institute: History, Sociology, Anthropology and Communication
Sciences.
Braga’s Public Library in the centre of town is also part
of the University of Minho and may be used by its students.
Computer rooms
The Computer Centre of the University of Minho provides access
to several computer rooms where students can book time for using
equipment.
