in Communications:
Rationale
The Communications degree aims to provide an encompassing education
in the domain of social and human sciences, as well as specific
training in the communication field.
By the end of their coursework, students are expected to have acquired
three main competences. Firstly, communications graduates should
have developed a critical understanding of society and the world.
Courses such as Sociology, Economics, History, Philosophy and Research
Methods should help enhance this intelectual, cultural and moral
competence.
Secondly, graduates should have acquired specific skills in the
domain of human communication. A solid knowledge of the semiotic,
linguistic, psychologic and social processes that are involved
in communicational behaviours is provided by such courses as Communication
Skills, Semiotics, Discourse Analysis and Foreign Languages.
Thirdly, the degree seeks to promote operative skills related to
the techiques and methods of Journalism, Production and Direction
in Broadcasting, Public Relations and Advertising. Practical training
is topped by a professionally supervised internship in a relevant
institution at the last semester of the degree.
